Those Summer Days
I remember those sweet summer days…
Laughing and dancing amid sunrays.
Your eyes sparkled as you smiled at me,
Playing in our childhood reverie.
All the troubles and sorrows that we both had…
Suddenly weren’t as sad or quite so bad.
At least momentarily, our hearts were carefree…
Unburdened, the way innocent child hearts should be.

Keep On Going
Don’t give up so easily and give in to despair.
Keep on following your dream even though your feet are sore.
The road is winding, steep and rough but it will take you there.
It’s when you’re tired out that you must go a little more.
Find the strength deep within yourself and it won’t be so hard.
The pain will be worth going through when you reach your goal.
A dream is something beautiful that you shouldn’t discard.
To give your dream up now will crush and destroy your soul.

On The Loss Of A Child
Little one, child of the sun…
Your life had only begun,
Before you were taken away.
Now night has replaced the day.
Tears stream from our eyes…
As our stricken soul cries.
We pray for some relief,
From the weight of this grief.
Precious angel, precious child…
Heaven was here when you smiled,
And your laughter filled our ears.
Little one, for these few years…
You blessed us with your sweet love.
Watch over us now, from above.

Feeling Doubtful
Heavy thoughts are hurting my head…
I’ll seek sleep and refuge in my bed.
Emotions suffocate my heart…
Maybe we’re meant to be apart.
I don’t see how things can work out well…
It’s too hard when I’m in a doubt filled hell.
Maybe it’s best to make a clean break.
The two of us might be a big mistake.

My Heart Is Yours
I gave my heart to you as yours to keep…
It has belonged to you since we first met.
No one can take that heart away from you…
Your love is the love I cannot forget.
There’s no other love I’d want in exchange.
You can be sure of me…please don’t doubt.
One heart beats only to beat for you…
Yours is the love I can’t survive without.

I Can't Hide
My love for you reaches my soul…
It’s the reason I lose control.
In spite of skillful tightrope talents…
I find myself thrown off of balance.
I struggle to maintain composure…
Trying to prevent full disclosure.
But, I’m displayed and can’t avoid exposure.
Like a zoo animal in its enclosure.

A Sickness
In a world plagued with hate driven atrocities,
Destroying each other has become a disease…
And I’m afraid there will never be any cure.
Is violence all that humanity lives for?
Haven’t we experienced enough devastation?
Must our world undergo complete annihilation?

Blessed
What can I say when words are not enough to tell you how I feel?
What proof can I offer you that shows my love isn’t false but real?
Don’t you know you could ask anything of me and I’d find a way…
To make every wish of yours reality without delay?
My darling, I live to see you smile and to give you happiness.
Your love has blessed my life in more ways than I can express.

Christmas Traveler
A rare Christmas full moon shines bright,
As you travel the highways tonight.
May it watch over you protectively,
And guide you safely on your journey…
Until you reach your destination,
To be greeted with celebration.
Then, when you slip into sleep tonight,
May it bless your dreams with silvery light.

I Miss You
I miss you most, during this time of year,
When festive holidays are here.
Hours we used to spend together…
Warmed our hearts in wintery weather.
Now, I spend time with memories…
Alone with ghosts, as fate decrees,
Holding a box of faded photographs…
And pain that remains the aftermath.

Your Love
When life is getting heavier,
You make the weight easier to bear.
In the depth of this bleak darkness,
Your love’s light is always there…
Providing needed strength for me,
To trudge through this rough terrain.
Your love shows me that victory,
Is something I can attain.

Don't Allow It
Don’t let any bully tear you down,
Or erase your smile and make you frown.
They’ll topple you if they get the chance…
And do their petty victory dance.
Don’t relinquish your power that way…
And be victim to mind games they play.
They’d relish each tasty tear you cried…
So make sure they go unsatisfied.

Sing Your Song
No one can silence your sweet song.
Some thought they could but they were wrong.
You’ll sing out stronger than before…
A song that the world can’t ignore.
You’ll spread your song out everywhere.
A song is something you should share…
So everyone can also sing,
And know the joy your song can bring.

In Time
In time, if I work hard enough,
Our lives won’t be so rough…
And I’ll be able to do,
Everything I want to do for you
Encouragement that you provide,
Strengthens and spurs me inside.
With you as the inspiration,
I’ve gained the motivation.

Ablaze
You show me how much you care in so many ways.
Nobody ever loved me like you always do…
Or treated my fragile heart with such tenderness.
Your bright love ignited and set my soul ablaze,
Arousing passion in me that I never knew…
Turning this drab life magical in the process.

Powerful
Your eyes are the only eyes I see…
They fascinate hour after hour.
Your voice is the only voice I hear…
The words you speak have all the power.
Only you can persuade and captivate…
With the passion that you generate.
You could lead me anywhere…
I’d follow you, my love, I swear.

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I've been writing poetry since I was eight years old and writing steadily since I was thirteen years old, so I have been writing for more years than I care to count. Over the years I've enjoyed drawing, painting and jewelry making. I also dabbled in a bit of sculpture. Writing has been a catharsis for letting go of my sometimes overwhelming emotions. I am thankful I have been able to release my emotions constructively into creativity. Several of my poems were published in the 1990's in University student publications. At this juncture in my life, I've decided to focus on my writing again.
